LinkGuard — Privacy Policy

The short version
LinkGuard collects nothing. It cannot see your browsing, because it never sends anything anywhere.
What LinkGuard does
- When you click "Scan this page", LinkGuard reads the links on the tab you are
viewing and checks them against bundled, on-device lists (URL shorteners, brand names, character
lookalike tables). All analysis happens inside your browser.
- The "Check a URL" box analyzes text you paste, on your device.
- Always-on mode (off by default, opt-in only) scans pages automatically using the
same on-device engine. It requests permission to read pages only if you enable it.
Data collection
None. LinkGuard:
- makes zero network requests — no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, no remote servers of any kind;
- stores only one setting on your device (whether always-on mode is enabled), using the browser's local extension storage;
- has no accounts, no sign-in, and no way to identify you.
Because no data ever leaves your device, there is nothing to share, sell, or breach.
Permissions — why each is needed
- activeTab — analyze the page you explicitly choose to scan. Nothing else.
- scripting — inject the on-device analyzer into that tab during a scan.
- storage — remember your always-on preference on this device.
- <all_urls> (optional, only if you enable always-on) — let the on-device analyzer run automatically on pages you visit. Never requested otherwise.
